DES MOINES — Both Graettinger/Terril wrestlers moved into the medal round by posting their second state victory on Thursday.

However top-rated Jake Hoffman lost his rematch with No. 2 John Sievert of Akron-Westfield, 11-6. That knocked the 189-pound Knight wrestler into the consolation bracket.

Hoffman actually led by a point in the third period when the two wrestlers went into a scramble situation. Sievert ended on top to earn back points and take the lead.

“We gave up a five-point move and it cost us the match,” said G/T coach Cody Alesch. “We couldn’t fight back in the time left.”

Hoffman had an much easier time in the second-round consolation match. It took just 1:42 to pin Coon Rapids-Bayard sophomore Jon Meyers.

James just wasn’t being aggressive until the third period.

Then McNitt tried unsuccessfully to throw Tatman.

“James just bulldozed him on a shot and took him right to his back,” said Alesch.

Tatman, rated ninth, will wrestle Alex Wright, a sophomore from Durant who is rated seventh, in the consolation quarterfinals for his first match today.

Hoffman will face Tyler Moorehead, a senior from Newman Catholic Mason rated eighth..

“Both our guys need to be aggressive and do as well as we can,” said Alesch.
