Tigers rout Bulldogs
Spencer used a big second quarter and fourth quarter against Algona to advance to the 2008 Class 3A girls state basketball tournament on Tuesday.
The Tigers, who advanced to the region semifinal in Estherville with a 50-40 win over Spirit Lake on Saturday, defeated the Bulldogs 74-51.
Algona, which won by 16 over ELC on Saturday, were defeated by the Tigers for the second time this season.
The two teams were tied at 12 after one quarter of play with Spencer pulling away to a 29-21 halftime lead. Algona played well, but lost ground in the third quarter, losing 20-18, with Spencer winning the final quarter 25-14.
The Tigers were led by Brittany Petersen with 25 points while Krista DeGeest had 21, Marni Jacobson had 12 and Emily Wassom had 10.
For Algona, Kristin Lipps had 20 points, Katelyn Seely had 11 and Laura TerHark had 10.
