Schichtl selected to play in Shrine bowl

Estherville Lincoln Central senior Spenser Schichtl has been selected to play in the 2008 Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic.

Schichtl, a defensive lineman led the Midget defense last fall in sacks with 11 for minus 65 yards. He had 23 assisted tackles and 18 unassisted tackles.

Schichtl will play on the North Squad. Andrew Keller, from Clarion-Goldfield was the only other selection from Class 2A District 2 selected to the North team

Players from the Lakes Conference selected to the North Squad are Jordan Carlsonof Storm Lake, Nate Fischer of LeMars and Nick Pulscher of Sheldon.

The 2008 Shrine game will be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.

The North head coach is Myron Radke, Aurelia HS, Aurelia. He has selected as his assistant coaches: Keith Hanks, Sioux City North HS, Kevin Hammer, Alta HS, Bob Read, Linn-Mar Marion HS, Aundra Meeks, Waterloo Columbus HS, and Todd Coy, South Hamilton HS.

The South head coach is Gary Swenson, Valley West Des Moines HS. West Des Moines. He has selected as his assistant coaches: Scott Carlson, Waukee HS, Mark Camenisch, Boone HS, Lance Pedersen, Wilton HS, Chad Edeker, Waco, Wayland HS, and Todd Quick, Hamburg HS .

The coaches selected 46 players for each squad. The selections are made from nominations received from the high school coaches around the state.
