Oh, those basketball skills

FOREST CITY — The Estherville Parks and Recreation Athletes participated in district competition for basketball skills and 3 on 3 basketball.

Competition was held Feb. 9 at Forest City.

Athletes participating in basketball skills acquired points in spot shot, target pass and 10 meter dribble. Athletes and their scores and placing are:

n Ethan Hatland, male 16-21 division, 57 points, 2nd place.

n Paul Pritts, male 22-29 division, 70 points, 2nd place.

n Duane Frick, male 51 and over, 49 points, 1st place.

n Lynda Hart, female 30-50 division, 65 points, 1st place.

n Sandy Porter, female 30-50 division, 57 points, 2nd place.

n Bruce Dubberke, development dribble division, 1st place.

The 3 on 3 basketball team played Forest City for the North Area Conference the same day. The Estherville Parks and Recreation basketball team was defeated 20-2 and 20-4 by Forest City. This marked Estherville’s first loss in three years.

The Estherville 3 on 3 members are: Ryan Williams, Ryan Foster, Ryan Etherington, Mark Torres and Todd West. The team took 2nd place ribbons and is coached by Paul Moffitt, Steve Williams and Adam Mustard.

All athletes receiving 1st place will now advance to the Mid Winter State Games on March 15 in Iowa City.

Also competing at the Mid Winter Games will be power lifters: Jesse Hatland and Alex Torres in the bench press and dead lift events. They are coached by Moffitt.

Also competing in the cheerleading unified dance event will be Chelsey Moffitt, Kelsey Shirk, Krystal Tendal, April Laird, Susanna Rodriguez, Torri Taylor with help from unified athletes Christina Weston, Angelica Rodriguez and Samantha Laird. The girls are coached by JoEllen Shonkwiler.
