Estherville Lincoln Central long distance standout Matt Juhl will take his talents to Iowa Central Community College next year.

The senior signed a letter of intent on Thursday to run for coach Dee Brown and the Tritons.

In track, Juhl’s top times are 9 minutes, 53 seconds in the 3200, 4:36 in the 1600 and 2 minutes even in the 800.

The senior is within reach of the school record in each event.

In 2007, Juhl qualified for state in three events–the 1600, the 3200 and the medley relay–earning a seventh place medal in the 1600.

He also qualified for the 3200-meter run in 2006.

In cross country, Juhl is a three-time state qualifier. He finished with faster times each year and placed 35th in 17:02 in 2007.

“I’m really excited to add Matt to our program,” said Brown. “Along with a couple other athletes we just signed, things are looking well for next year. With the three we’ve added, we should have another shot at finishing in the top two.”

Iowa Central’s men’s cross country team was the 2007 runner-up at nationals.

The Tritons have only had a track and field program for three years, but both the women and men have finished as high as sixth in the nation.
