Lakers begin spring tour with three victories

CLERMONT, Fla. — Iowa Lakes kicked off its 2008 softball spring trip on Friday with three games.

Iowa Lakes topped North Central Missouri Community College 9-0 and 8-0 in the first two games of the morning and St. Clair Community College 5-2 in the afternoon finale.

Iowa Lakes improves 11-1 on the season and plays Polk Community College in a doubleheader today.

Iowa Lakes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one with three in the bottom of the third highlighted by a two-RBI single by Caiti Block.

The Lakers added two more in the third with a two-out, two-RBI single by Camiel Salcedo.

That was more than enough for sophomore Aly Bowers as she limited North Central Missouri to four hits while striking out four to run her record to 6-0.

Kristina Manser was 2-4 with one RBI, Stephanie Ochoa was 2-3, Michelle McKenna 2-4 with one RBI, Kimmie White 2-3 with one RBI, Salcedo 2-3 with three RBIs and Block 2-3 with two RBIs.

Iowa Lakes used the blueprint in game one to win game two as well, this time 8-0.

Three runs in the third with two RBIs by White and one by Manser gave Iowa Lakes a 3-0 lead.

The Lakers erupted for five more runs in the fourth with a bases-loaded single by McKenna bringing in two runs.

Freshman Lauren Smith pitched all five innings for Iowa Lakes, striking out one in limiting NCMCC to only one hit.

White was 3-3 with three RBIs, Salcedo 2-3, Manser 2-3 with one RBI, and Ochoa 2-3 with one RBI.

The final game of the day saw Iowa Lakes take on St. Clair Community College and Iowa Lakes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second with an RBI double by Brittany Brohmer and an RBI single by Salcedo.

After a St. Clair run in the bottom of the second, Iowa Lakes scored three more runs in the third to go on top 5-1.

Sarah Dockter pitched the first three innings for Iowa Lakes and was relieved by Bowers in the fourth.

Bowers picked up the win in relief after allowing only two hits in her four innings of relief. Brohmer was 3-3 with one RBI, Andrea Hacker was 3-4 and Ochoa 2-3.
