Lakers keep winning
CLERMONT, Fla. — The Iowa Lakes softball team went back to the field after a day off, playing a doubleheader against Rio Grande University. Iowa Lakes won both games by scores of 11-3 and 6-4.
The Lakers fell behind early in game one, giving up a first-inning run and a couple of errors, but responded with two in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good in game one.
Jamie Sorensen supplied a two-RBI double with two outs in the second to give Iowa Lakes the 2-1 lead. Sorensen again provided the spark in the third with her second double of the game, driving in two more runs to give the Lakers a 7-1 lead.
After a solo run made it 8-1, Rio Grande struck back with two of their own in the fifth, but Iowa Lakes pushed three more across in the bottom of the fifth to end the game 11-3.
Aly Bowers worked all five innings to pick up her ninth win on the season. Sorensen was 3-3 with four RBIs, Andy Hacker 2-4 and one RBI, Emily Reimers 2-2 with one RBI and Stephanie Ochoa 2-4 with one RBI.
Iowa Lakes scored a first-inning run in game two with an RBI single by Kimmie White, but Rio Grande got three in the home half of the first to go up 3-1.
After giving up another run in the second, Iowa Lakes chipped away at the lead, getting a run in the third with consecutive hits by Camiel Salcedo, Hacker and Ochoa to make it 4-2 and then tying the game in the fourth with two more.
An RBI double by Kristina Manser gave Iowa Lakes a 5-4 lead in the fifth and the Lakers tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to make the final 6-4.
Sarah Dockter pitched the first three inning for Iowa Lakes and Bowers then picked up the win in relief, limiting Rio Grande to one hit over the final four innings.
Salcedo was 2-4, Hacker 3-4, White 2-4 with one RBI, Manser 2-4 with one RBI and Brittany Brohmer 2-3 with one RBI.
Iowa Lakes (15-3) will play three games today in Titusville, Fla.–a doubleheader with Lackawanna and one game versus Chesapeake College.
