STORM LAKE — Emily Jensen pace the Estherville Lincoln Central girls track team at the 2008 Lakes Conference Indoor Track Meet on Tuesday with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run.

The junior ran the event in 2 minutes, 31.53 seconds–seven seconds faster than Cherokee’s Erica Nicholson.

“She really stood out,” said ELC coach Tina Burton. “We’re hoping she can continue to develop this season.”

ELC’s 4×800-meter relay team of Brooke Egeland, Brittany Ross, Halli Winter and Beth Larscheid had a strong showing with a second-place finish in 10:59.63.

Placing fourth was the 4×400-meter relay team of Jensen, Landra Lapka, Taylar Jacobson and Brenna Wegner in 4:34.26.

Christina Weston added a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

Egeland took sixth in the 1600-meter run, running a time of 5:48.52. Ross finished seventh.

“The underclassmen got their first meet. Most were running their first indoor meet,” Burton said.

The coach said 10 girls will travel to an indoor meet at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Monday.
