SLP 4×800 team sets school record

STORM LAKE — The Spirit Lake Park boys track team’s 4×800-meter relay foursome highlighted the 2008 Lakes Conference Indoor Track Meet on Tuesday.

The quartet of Joe Nellis, Brandon Griffin, Tyler Gustafson and Dan Pearson finished in 8 minutes, 31.54 seconds to set an indoor school record by eight seconds. The foursome also finished nearly 28 seconds ahead of second-place Storm Lake.

The Indians also grabbed a few second places in the relays–both the 4×200 and the 4×400.

The 4×200-meter team of Alex Campbell, Greg Orwig, Boomer Dreeszen and Cris Hemphill finished in 1:39.67.

The 4×400 team of Orwig, Campbell, Nellis and Griffin ran a time of 3:40.60.

The Indians did well in the shot put with Chris Reed placing second with a throw of 49 feet, 4 inches. Dalton Savage was sixth with a toss of 44 feet, 4 inches.

SLP also had two placewinners in the 1600-meter run with Jesse Baldwin finishing third in 4:49.69 and Tyler Gustafson in fifth in 4:53.58.

Placing fourth were Quade Klepper in the 800-meter run in 2:12.53 and Orwig in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 2 3/4 inches.
