Soper medals in first meet
COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Iowa Lakes golf teams competed in their first action of the season on Sunday at the Iowa Western Spring Invite at Bent Tree Golf Course in Council Bluffs.
The Laker women came away with a fourth-place finish led by meet medalist Ricca Soper’s 78.
The Laker men finished sixth out of nine teams with Nick Christensen’s hole-in-one helping him lead the team with an 81.
DMACC won the women’s meet with a 339 followed by Dana college with 355, Iowa Western with 358, Iowa Lakes with 368, Ellsworth with 373 and NIACC with 382. Midland Lutheran and Peru State also had golfers competing.
Runner-up medalist was Iowa Western’s Savanah Krull with an 80.
Rounding out the Lakers’ scores were April Wolf with a 93, Sarah Subbert with a 96 and Abby Hohensee with a 101.
On the men’s side, Southeast CC (NE) won with a 312 followed by DMACC with 316, Iowa Western with 322, Doane College with 324, Scott CC with 329, Iowa Lakes with 331, NIAACC with 342, Ellsworth with 350 and Southwestern with 388.
Southeast’s David Holman and Kourtnery Knowles of Iowa Western each shot 70s to earn medalist and runner-up medalist, respectively.
Other Iowa Lakes scores, Ross Froehlich shot an 82, Tom Thompson an 83 and Max Koster and 85.
The Lakers travel to Fort Doge April 6-7 for the Grandview Co-ed Invite.
