Lakers take two from Panthers
FORT DODGE — The No. 12 Iowa Lakes softball team continued conference play on Wednesday with a doubleheader versus Ellsworth Community College. Iowa Lakes won game one 2-0 and game two 8-4.
Game one was tight throughout as sophomore Aly Bowers only allowed five baserunners the entire game and Iowa Lakes was limited to three hits.
Two of those hits came in the third inning when the Lakers scored both of their runs.
An RBI double by Andy Hacker and an RBI single by Kimmie White was all the offense Iowa Lakes could muster in the game, but that was enough for Bowers as she finished her three-hit shutout with six strikeouts.
Ellsworth jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two and Iowa Lakes struggled at the plate until the fourth inning when four consecutive hits produced three runs to cut the lead to 4-3.
After a scoreless fifth, Iowa Lakes took advantage of three Panther errors in the sixth to push five runs across and take an 8-4 lead.
After a shaky first inning, freshman Lauren Smith limited Ellsworth to one hit for the next five innnings to earn her eighth win of the season with Bowers working a perfect seventh.
White had the only multiple hit game for Iowa Lakes going 2-4.
Iowa Lakes is now 26-5 on the season and 4-2 in region play. The Lakers travel to Creston today to play Southwestern Community College.
