The Estherville Lincoln Central boys tennis team dropped its opening match with a 9-0 defeat to Cherokee on Monday.
In singles play, Tyler Halstead lost 10-6 to Cole Egger, Jim Mohler lost 10-2 to Kyle Ruehle, Joe Woodward lost 10-1 to Cole Renken; Phil Leffel lost 11-9 to Dan Feser, Adam Gellert lost 10-0 to Tom Wilson and Adam Mustard lost 10-3 to Nick Parker.
In doubles, Halstead and Woodward lost 10-4 to Egger and Ruehle; Mohler and Leffel and lost 10-2 to Renken and Parker and Mustard and Seth Origer lost 10-4 to Feser and Wilson.
In junior varsity play, ELC lost 7-2 to Cherokee.
ELC picked up its two wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Nate Jensen won 8-6 and Matt Hansen won 8-3.
In other singles play, Seth Origer lost 8-2, Tom Markeson lost 8-3, Cody Jackson lost 8-1 and Roger Breaman lost 8-2.
In doubles, Gellert and Markeson lost 8-3; Jackson and Breaman lost 8-1 and Jensen and Kevin Kuemper lost 9-7.
ELC hosts LeMars on Thursday.
