Mustangs place second at the Maverick Relays
SPENCER — The Armstrong-Ringsted girls track team opened the season with a second-place finish at the Maverick Relays in Spencer on Friday.
West Bend-Mallard-Twin River Valley edged the Mustangs by a point, 79-78.
Clay Central-Everly was third with 52 points followed by Forest Ridge with 50, Graettinger/Terril with 22 and Ruthven-Ayrshire with 11.
Traci Speltz gave A-R a pair of first place finishes by winning the 300-meter run in 13 minutes 15.4 seconds and the 1500-meter run in 6:13.33.
Leah Sanders finished third in the 3000-meter run in 17:07.8.
Morgan Grabinoski helped the team to three first-place finishes and a second place finish.
She won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.64, the 200-meter dash in 28.85 seconds and anchored the sprint medley team of Rosie Cheever, Brittney Mitchell and Krista Pelzer to finish in 2:02.62.
In the 100-meter dash, Grabinoski placed second in 13.85 seconds.
Lisa Pelzer gave the Mustangs a first-place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.10 seconds. Pelzer also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 8 inches.
Cheever added a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet even and third in the discus with a toss of 76 feet, 10 inches.
Krista Pelzer placed second in the 200-meter dash in 29.07 seconds.
The 4100-meter team of Lisa Pelzer, Sanders, Mitchell and Krista Pelzer was second in 58.17 seconds.
Also second was the 4×200-meter relay team of Speltz, Cheever, Mitchell and Krista Pelzer in 2:00.97.
A-R travels to the Spirit Lake Co-ed meet today.
