The Iowa Lakes fledgling wrestling program acquired one of the top area wrestlers by signing Spirit Lake Park’s Dillon Miner.

Miner, a four-time state individual medalist, won a state title in 2007 and went 34-6. In his final senior season, he ended with a 40-4 record and finished in third at the 2008 state meet.

Miner finished third as a freshman in 2005 and second in 2006.

“We’re excited to get one of the best local kids in the area,” said Iowa Lakes coach Jason McCloud. “Having a four-time state placewinner, that’s what people want to watch. It’s exciting for the school and the wrestling program. That’s what we want to build around.”

McCloud said he expects to sign several athletes rated in the top 30 in the nation by Wrestling USA magazine.

Iowa Lakes began its wrestling program this past year, but didn’t field a full time. Wrestlers competed at tournaments as individual.

With the wrestlers coming in next season, McCloud has high expectations for the 2008-09 Lakers.
