SPENCER — The Spirit Lake/Okoboji boys tennis team didn’t have the firepower to take down a tough Spencer squad as they lost

The matches SL/O won were tough enough.

At the No. 3 singles, Sam Sieh won 10-8 over chris Jones and at the No. 5 singles, Blake Kleigl won 10-8 over Greg Anderson. Sieh and Kleigl joined forces to win the No. 2 doubles match, 10-7, over Jones and Jon Gabhart.

“Both Sam and Blake had outstanding performances, winning both their singles and doubles matches,” said SL/O coach Dan Taylor. “Blake just began playing this year, and he has shown incredible improvement with each of his three matches so far. And Sam’s game is really coming together nicely, physically, mentally and tactically.”

In other singles play, Scott Maudlin lost 10-3 to Chris Lensing; Mason Bergquist lost 10-0 to Joey Toale; Brady Harmelink lost 10-0 to Sascha Schulz and Mitch O’Neill lost 10-3 to Gabhart.

“Scott played pretty well against Lensing, bringing many games to deuce, but Lensing just played the points at deuce a little better, and won most of the deuce games,” said Taylor.

In doubles, Maudlin and Bergquist lost 10-1 to Lensing and Toale and Harmelink and O’Neill lost 10-4 to Anderson and Taylor Harman.
