Spirit Lake Park girls track wins Cherokee Tomahawk Relays

CHEROKEE — The Spirit Lake Park girls track team opened the outdoor season with a victory at the Tomahawk Relays last Friday.

The Indians scored 147 points followed by Storm Lake with 117, Bishop Heelan with 100, Spencer with 60, Sioux City North with 46, Sioux City West with 44, LeMars with 42 and Estherville Lincoln Central with 33.

The Indians had five first place finishes with several events with two placewinners.

SLP did very well in the field events.

In the high jump, Megan Skalbeck was first with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches and Amber Kirschbaum was fifth at 4 feet, 6 inches.

In the shot put, Jen Kirschbaum was first with a throw of 36 feet, 7 inches while Amber Kirschbaum was third with a throw of 35 feet, 2 inches.

In the discus, Amber Kirschbaum as first with a throw of 125 feet, 6 inches while Jen Kirschbaum was fourth with a throw of 105 feet.

Also in the field events, Laura Rowe placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 6 1/2 inches.

The Indians won both the 4×800 and 4×400-meter relays

The 4×800 team of Mary Brown, Carrie Emgarten, Kaisha Brown and Megan Skalbeck won in 10:17.58 while the 4×400 team of Deni Peters, Kaisha Brown, Mckenzie Dziedzic and Rowe won in 4:20.48.

The Indians went 2-3 in the 400-meter dash with Peters clocking a time of 63.94 and Dziedzic in 66:17.

SLP also went 2-3 in the 400-meter hurdles with Amber Kirschbaum running the event in 74.99 seconds and Megan Skalbeck in 75.45 seconds.

The Indians’ 4×200-meter relay took second in 1:51.98. The quartet consisted of Megan Lawler, Kylie Ingvall, Alex Horsman and Rowe.

SLP went 2-6 in the 1500-meter run with Emgarten finishing in 5:18.66 and Christina Hanson in 5:35.44.

Spirit Lake went 3-4 in the 800-meter run with Briana Brunsvold finishing in 2:37.90 and Mary Brown in 2:37.93.

The distance medley team of Horsman, Caila Jones, Kaisha Brown and Emgarten took third in 4:36.68.

The sprint medley team of Megan Ingvall, Kylie Ingvall, Lawler and Horsman was fourth in 2:00.65. Also fourth was the 4×100-meter relay team of Megan Ingvall, Kylie Ingvall, Jessica Wallace and Lawler in 52.94 seconds.

In the 300-meter run, Hanson finished fourth in 12:05.24 while Erin Lynn was sixth in 12:41.21.

Kylie Ingvall was fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.31 seconds.

Dziedzic was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 29.20 seconds.
