In a matchup between two teams with a combined 69 wins this season, Iowa Lakes and Iowa Central each got a win with Iowa Lakes taking game one 3-0 and Iowa Central taking game two 8-5.

Game one was a pitching duel as Iowa Lakes Aly Bowers limited Iowa Central to three hits and Iowa Central’s Kylee Jones only allowed the Lakers four hits.

However, an Iowa Central miscue in the second inning allowed two runs to score and Stephanie Ochoa drove in the third run in the fifth to make the final 3-0. Ochoa had the only multi-hit game for either team going 2-3 with one RBI.

Iowa Central jumped on top in game two scoring two first inning runs to take a 2-0 lead. It stayed that way until the fifth when the Tritons scored another to make it 3-0.

Three big errors and three Iowa Central hits led to a five run sixth for the Tritons to make it 8-0.

Iowa Lakes battled back with a twoRBI double by Michell McKenna, and RBI double by Aly Cloud and Andy Hacker to make it 8-5. Iowa Lakes did not threaten in the seventh.

McKenna was 2-3 with two RBIs for Iowa Lakes. Lauren Smith took the loss, pitching all seven innings and dropping her record to 11-2.

Iowa Lakes is now 37-7 and 11-3 in Region XI play. They will play again on Tuesday traveling to Iowa Falls to play Ellsworth.

On Sunday, after withstanding a couple of days where winter tried to hang on, the Iowa Lakes softball team took the field again at home with a doubleheader versus Marshalltown Community College.

The result was a Laker sweep, 8-0 in game one and 15-7 in game two.

Aly Bowers allowed only one Marshalltown base runner in game one–a third inning walk–in tossing the five-inning no-hitter.

Iowa Lakes pieced together rallies in the second, third and fourth innings to end the game in five.

Kristina Manser was 2-3 and Kimmie White 2-2 with one RBI for Iowa Lakes.

There was a little offense in game two as Marshalltown jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but a two-RBI double by Manser in the home half of the first tied it as 2-2.

Marshalltown got a second inning run to make it 3-2, but a nine-run second inning by the Lakers put the game out of reach at 11-3.

The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Camiel Salcedo and a two-run home run by Brittany Brohmer.

Two runs in the third and Salcedo’s second home run in the fourth pushed the lead to 15-3 before Marshalltown got four back in the fifth to make the final 15-7 in five innings.

Lauren Smith pitched the first three innings to get her 11th win of the season with Jamie Sorensen tossing the final two innings.

Salcedo was 3-4 with five RBIs, White 2-3 with three RBIs, Brohmer 2-3 with three RBIs, Aly Cloud 2-3 with one RBI and Caiti Block 2-2.
