Mustangs win home relays

ARMSTRONG — The Armstrong-Ringsted girls track team notched its first victory at home, winning the Jim Godfredsen Relays on Monday.

“It was a little cold and windy, but the girls did a nice job playing through the wind,” said A-R coach Robert Zotz. “It was a great performance in front of the home fans.”

Official team standings weren’t available, but the Mustangs scored over 190 with Clay Central-Everly a distance second by at least 50 points.

The Mustangs had 11 first-place finishes.

Rosie Cheever won the discus with a throw of 97 feet, 10 inches and the shot put with a toss of 32 feet, 5 inches. Teammate Brittney Mitchell took third in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet 7 1/2 inches.

Cheever also ran in the winning 4×400-meter relay team which included Lisa Pelzer, Olivia Craig and Morgan Grabinoski as they finished in 4:30.13. Cheever finished second in the 100-meter dash.

Traci Speltz won the 3000-meter run in 12:55.55 while teammate Tess Christiansen was second in 16.07.75. In the 1500-meter run, Speltz was second in 6:07.84 and Christiansen was fourth in 7:20.86.

Pelzer added first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.59 seconds and also was first in the 400-meter hurdles in 73.20 seconds. She took second in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 4 1/2 inches.

Krista Pelzer won the 200-meter dash in 28.22 seconds while Grabinoski was second in 28.34 seconds.

Craig won the 400-meter dash in 65 seconds with Grabinoski in second in 65.37 seconds.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Crystal Bush, Heather Rein, Mitchell and Krista Pelzer was first in 58.32 seconds. The same quartet was first in the 4×200-meter relay in 2:05.53.

The sprint medley team of Leah Sanders, Bush, Krista Pelzer and Grabinoski was first in 2:08.39.

Placing third was the shuttle hurdle relay team of Rein, Taylor Grabinoski, Bush and Sanders in 1:27.39.

Placing fourth was the 4×800-meter relay team of Sanders, karen Payne-Beaver, Katie Truax and Mitchell in 13:35.47. Craig was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:57.53 and fourth in the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches.

Placing fifth was the distance medley team of Rein, Taylor Grabinoski, Christiansen and Speltz in 5:40.66.
