Spirit Lake/Okoboji sweeps ELC
OKOBOJI — The Spirit Lake/Okoboji girls tennis team had a little too much firepower with a 9-0 victory over Estherville Lincoln Central on Monday.
“It was a struggle,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “Spirit Lake is a solid team.”
In singles play, Stephanie Wittmer lost 10-1 to Alli Gerking; Lexie Hash lost 10-5 to Aubry Kolegraff; Sarah Chrestiansen lost 10-2 to Kassie Hein; Kaylene Vos lost 10-0 to Cassidy Clarity; Emily Swalve lost 10-3 to Kara Crosgrove and Morgan Kirchner lost 10-3 to Shirley Coenen.
In doubles, Gerking and Kolegraff won 10-2 over Wittmer and Vos; Crosgrove and Clarity beat Hash and Chrestiansen 10-3; and Hein and Kylie Stoll won 10-0 over Swalve and Kirchner.
“We have a lot to improve on before our next meet with them,” siad Kirchner. “Many of the girls thought hey had too many unforced errors.”
ELC will play its first home dual, hosting Spencer on Thursday.
In junior varsity play, ELC lost 7-2 to SL/O.
At the No. 6 singles, Molly Martens picked up an 8-4 victory.
Erin Olson and Courtney Bruns picked up an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles.
In other singles play, Olson lost 8-6, Bruns lost 8-1, Michelle Wedebrand lost 8-1, Trisha Nelson lost 8-3; and Erin Kirchner lost 8-2.
In other doubles, Wedebrand and Nelson lost 8-1 and Kirchner and Martens lost 8-6.
In exhibition doubles play, Kelsey McCauley and Laura Fandel lost 6-3; Holly Enerson and Heather Enerson lost 6-1; Tessa Bernoltz and Kaylee Schoon won 6-5; Amanda Heinrichs and Allison Hevern lost 6-3; Allison Barnard and Elizabeth Olson won 6-1; Megan Rogers and Jessica Lepird lost 6-2; Emily Aanonson and Heather Enerson won 6-3; McCauley and Holly Enerson won 6-0 and Fandel and Bernholtz won 6-0.
