SPENCER — With some of the team battling injuries and running on back-to-back nights, the Estherville Lincoln Central girls track team was only at half strength at the Spencer Invitational on Tuesday.

The Midgettes still managed to score 34 points due in part to a pair of first-place finishes by Emily Jensen.

Jensen won the 400-meter dash in 63 seconds and then edged Spirit Lake Park’s Kaisha Brown in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35. Brown was less than a second behind.

“Emily ran a smart race which was fun to see,” said ELC coach Tina Burton.

ELC received extra points in the 400-meter dash where Landra Lapka placed third in 66 seconds.

Also third was Christina Weston in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 9 inches.

ELC’s other points came from the distance medley team of Ashley Weston, Emily Hecht, Molly Wittmer and Halli Winter as they clocked in in 5:13.

“Halli has been battling in the tough races. She’s worked hard trying to improve her times and is a consistent runner,” said Burton.

ELC hosts its relays on Friday.
