Lakers take second in Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE — The Iowa Lakes men’s golf team had its best outing of the season with a second-place finish at the Iowa Central Co-ed Invite on Monday.

Kirkwood’s top team won with a 301 with the Lakers carding a 314. Iowa Western was third with a 315.

Andy Soper led the Lakers with a 77 while Tom Thompson and Ross Froehlich each carded 78s. Iowa Lakes had a choice of 81s from Nick Christensen and Max Koster for their final score.

Kirkwood’s Matt Berg was medalist with a 70 while Scott Community College’s Ryan Greenlief was runnerup with a 74.

Rounding out the team scores, Scott was fourth 2with 323, Marshalltown, DMACC and Kirkwood’s white team all tied for fifth with 329. NIACC was eight with a 334 followed by Iowa Central with 335, Ellsworth with 351, Southwestern with 361 and Southeastern with 375.

Iowa Lakes travels to the Buena Vista Invitational at the Spencer Golf and Country Club on Friday and Lake Creek in Storm Lake on Saturday.
