The Estherville Lincoln Central girls golf team fielded two squads at its home invitational on Tuesday.

While the Midgettes Black team and Red team were separated by three strokes, ELC was still out of running overall.

Emmetsburg and Spirit Lake tied for first as each team carded 216s. The E’Hawks won the tiebreaker, which is the score of the varsity’s fifth golfer.

Spencer placed third with a 222 followed by Sheldon with a 242, ELC Black with 246 and ELC Red with 249.

Spirit Lake’s Ashley Nielsen took medalist honors with a 44 while Emily Holck of Spencer was runner-up with a 48.

Julie Wilson takes a swing in the fairway.

For ELC’s Black Team, Katie Lowe and Taylor Heinrichs each carded 60s while Megan Woods and Julie Wilson each shot 63s.

“Taylor and Katie both shot well and improved nicely on their scores,” said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. “The wind was brutal and the girls really had to fight it all night long.”

Non-counting scores were a 64 by Jordan Jacobson and a 68 from Paige Evans.

ELC’s Red Team was led by a pair of 61s from Krista Lowe and Haley Dalen. Macy Milburn carded a 62 while Brooke Johnson carded a 65.

“Haley and Krista did a nice job shooting 61s,” said Richardson. “We know these first meets are going to be rough. We just have to keep with it and get some on-the-course practice time.”

Non-counting scores were a 71 from Melissa Radmaker and an 81 by Anna Bruns.

For Spirit Lake, Nikkie Nielson and Regan Sieperda also finished in the top 10 overall. Neilsen shot a 52 while Sieperda carded a 59.

The Indians’ fourth counting score was a 61 by Katie Hansen.

Non-counting scores included a 64 from Maureen Owens and a 70 by Bobbie Turpin.
