Lakers softball surpasses 40 wins
MASON CITY — Playing the seventh and eighth games in four days, Iowa Lakes traveled to Mason City to take on NIACC on Wednesday.
The results were another balanced attack from the Lakers as they won game one 8-0 and game two 14-2.
A second inning home run by sophomore Brittany Brohmer (her eighth of the year) gave Iowa Lakes a 1-0 lead in game one.
A third inning home run by Stephanie Ochoa made it 2-0 and an RBI double in the same inning by Kristina Manser made it 3-0.
Iowa Lakes batted around in the fourth to push the score to 8-0 and Aly Bowers only allowed three NIACC hits while striking out nine to run her season record to 24-4.
Ochoa was 3-3 with two RBIs, Brohmer 2-3 with one RBI, and Aly Cloud 2-3 with one RBI.
Iowa Lakes jumped out on top in game two with three first-inning runs with RBIs by Kimmie White, Manser and Brohmer.
NIACC made it 3-2 in the bottom of the inning, but Jamie Sorensen connected for her first home run of the season in the second inning to make it 4-2.
Ochoa added her second home run of the day in the fourth to make it 5-2 and Iowa Lakes sent eight to the plate in the sixth to score four more and make the score 9-2.
A five-run seventh inning made the final 14-2.
Lauren Smith scatted four hits through seven innings work to push her season record to 13-2.
Kimmie White was 4-5 with four RBIs and her single in the fourth was her 156th hit as a Laker, passing Erin Jones to become the all-time hit leader at Iowa Lakes.
Camiel Salcedo was 3-5 with one RBI, Ochoa 2-5 with three RBIs, Brohmer 2-4 with one RBI, Sorensen 2-3 with one RBI and Emily Reimers 2-2.
Iowa Lakes is now 41-7 on the season and 15-3 in Region XI play. With day off on Thursday, the Lakers will gear up for a three-day homestand starting with Southwestern Community College today at 3:30 p.m. All three days will be webcast via the Iowa Lakes website.
