ELC runs light at Humboldt
HUMBOLDT — The Estherville Lincoln Central girls track team was in action at Humboldt on Monday.
ELC was led by first-place finishes from the distance medley team of Taylar Jacobson, Brenna Wegner, Landra Lapka and Halli Winter and also Emily Jensen in the 400-meter dash.
The distance medley team finished in 4 minutes, 45 seconds. while Jensen’s time in the 400 was 62.5 seconds.
“We didn’t run at full throttle because of our home meet (Tuesday) and trying to get through the week without injuries,” said ELC coach Tina Burton.
Brittany Ross added a second-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:31.
Also, Christina Weston placed third in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 5 inches.
Burton said Brenna Wegner looked strong in both the distance medley and sprint medley.
“I think she ran her best splits of the year,” the coach said.
Burton also said Jensen and Ross continue to run strong.
“The girls are starting to feel good in their races and we’re looking to see what we can do at districts,” said Burton.
In junior varsity action, Kali Kaltved took first in the 400-meter dash in 70.3 seconds.
Also, Ashley Weston added a first place finish in the shot put with a throw of 26 feet, 9 inches. Kyleigh Watkins placed third in the shot put with a throw of 26 feet, 4 inches and fourth in the discus with a throw of 68 feet, 6 inches.
The JV 4×400-meter relay team of Jeannine Fix, Emily Hecht, Sam Natterstad and Ashley Weston finished third in 5:24.
