Lakers split with No. 5 Tritons
FORT DODGE — The Iowa Lakes softball team traveled to Fort Dodge to play the No. 5 ranked Iowa Central Tritons in a matchup between two of nation’s best.
The result was a split with Iowa Central winning game one 2-1 and Iowa Lakes winning game two 5-0.
Iowa Lakes jumped on top in game one in the first inning with a lead off walk to Camiel Salcedo and couple of ground outs and an RBI double by Kimmie White.
Iowa Lakes loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, but were unable to add to the 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Aly Bowers kept Iowa Central at bay until the bottom of the sixth when Iowa Central used two of their four hits on the game to score their two runs.
The Lakers threatened again in the seventh, getting the bases loaded with two outs, but White hit a line drive to second base to end the game.
White was 2-4 with the lone RBI, Stephanie Ochoa 2-3 and Aly Cloud 2-2.
Freshman Lauren Smith stepped up in game two, limiting Iowa Central to three hits and not allowing a runner past second base.
Iowa Lakes got four runs in the third inning with two outs with consecutive hits by Andy Hacker, Ochoa, White and Kristina Manser.
Brittany Brohmer hit her 11th home run of the season in the sixth to make it 5-0 and that would be enough for Smith as she moved her record to 15-3 with the complete game shutout. Brohmer was 2-3 with one RBI, Cloud 2-3, and White 2-4 with one RBI.
Iowa Lakes is now 44-10 on the season and 18-6 in Region XI. Iowa Lakes will play its final home games today with a double header versus Southwestern starting at 3:30 p.m.
