Midgets run well in warm weather
EMMETSBURG — The Estherville Lincoln Central boys track team evidently enjoyed competing in good weather coming through with several solid performances at the Clint Stille Relays at Emmetsburg on Tuesday.
ELC scored 73 points to place fourth overall.
“it was fun to participate in a track meet on the finest night of 2008,” said ELC coach Dick Barrett. “This is the beginning of a busy week for us as we participate at Storm Lake on Thursday, then Armstrong for a make-up meet on Friday.”
ELC’s Matt Juhl had a busy night competing in the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs. He placed second in all of them. His times, respectively, were 2 minutes 4.37 seconds, 4:42.40 and 10:25.75.
“Matt gave a good effort,” said Barrett.
Marcus Stangl also came up with a career best throw in the shot put. His toss of 50 feet, 9 inches placed him second behind Jordan Mathisen who threw 3 inches further.
Stangl placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 125 feet, 11 inches and Spenser Schichtl was fifth at 12 feet, 7 inches.
“Our throwers had a good night,” said Barrett.
Scott Schmidt gave ELC a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 52.50 seconds.
Schmidt anchored the third-place 4×400-meter relay team of Justin Blinkmann, Jordan Eggers and Brandon Hanson which finished in 3:39.36.
Also third was the shuttle hurdle relay team of Jessie Knaack, Jay Smith, Dane Ross and Hanson in 1:06.53.
The 4×200-meter relay tam of Chris Blinkmann, Dan Kirchner, Eggers and Justin Blinkmann finished fourth in 1:37.08. The 4×100 relay of Chris Blinkmann, Kirchner, Alex Rosburg and Ross also was fourth in 48.43 seconds.
In the 400-meter hurdles, hanson was fourth in 1:01.53. Justin Blinkmann added a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash in 24.27 seconds and he was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 1/2 inch.
The medley relay team of Kirchner, Eggers, Ross and Tyler McDermott was fifth in 3:59.27.
McDermott placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches.
Algona won the meet with 177 points followed by Spirit Lake Park with 149, Emmetsburg with 80, ELC with 73 and Bishop Garrigan with 65.
