SL/O falls to Braves
OKOBOJi — The Spirit Lake/Okoboji boys tennis team picked up a couple close wins against Cherokee in the two teams’ second meeting of the season on Monday.
However the overall result, a Braves win, was the same with the visitors winning 7-2.
“The guys definitely showed how much they have improved since we played Cherokee the first match of the season,” said SL/O coach Dan Taylor. “We lost that match 9-0, and were only close in a couple of the matches. This time, we won two matches, and had a good shot at winning a few more, and even the meet as a whole.
SL/O picked up its wins at the No. 3 singles where Sam Sieh won 10-8 over Cole Renken and the No. 5 singles as Blake Kleigl won 10-5 over Daniel Feser.
In other singles play, Scott Maudlin lost 10-6 to Cole Egger; Mason Bergquist lost 10-7 to Kyle Ruehle; Brady Harmelink lost 10-1 to Tom Wilson and Mitch O’Neill lost 10-1 to Nick Parker.
In doubles, Maudlin and Bergquist lost 10-5 to Egger and Ruehle; Sieh and Kleigl lost 10-8 to Renken and Parker and Harmelink and O’Neill lost 10-4 to Wilson and Feser.
“Almost every individual result was an improvement from last time, which is a wonderful thing to see,” said Taylor. We still need to work on closing out close matches strong – both in this meet, and in our meet against LeMars last week.”
