SLP girls win with ease at Okoboji Relays
MILFORD — The Spirit Lake Park girls track team walked through the Okoboji Relays, taking first win a 168 points.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was a distance second with 100 followed by Central Lyon with 82, Okoboji with 78, Emmetsburg with 52, Sioux Center and Sibley-Ocheyedan with 50 each and South O’Brien with nine.
The Indians again earned plenty of points in the field events with Amber Kirschbaum and Jen Kirschbaum posting a 1-2 finish in the discus with throws of 113 feet, 4 inches and 11 feet, 2 inches, respectively. The duo also placed in the shot put with Jen throwing 37 feet, 5 inches for second place and Amber throwing 35 feet, 11 1/2 inches for fourth place.
Also in field events, Megan Skalbeck was third in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches. Laura Rowe was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 9 1/4 inches and Caila Jones jumped a career-best 14 feet, 9 inches to place fifth.
The Indians won five relays.
The 4×800-meter relay team of Carrie Emgarten, Kaisha Brown, Mary Brown and Skalbeck finished in 10:30.24; the 4×200-meter relay team of Megan Lawler, Kylie Invgall, Alex Horseman and Rowe finished in 1:53.09. The sprint medley team of Horsman, Kylie Ingvall, Lawler and Deni Peters finished in 1:58.17. The 4×100-meter relay team of Megan Ingvall, Kylie Ingvall, Jessica Wallace and Lawler finished in 52.80 seconds and the 4×400-meter relay eam of McKenzie Dziedzic, Kaisha Brown, Peters and Skalbeck finished in 4:22.21.
The SLP shuttle hurdle relay team of Kylie Sebert, Rowe, Sammy Spies and Kori Heidebrink finished fourth in 73.97 seconds.
The Indians had a few more firsts and double-places in events.
In the 100-meter dash, Lawler was first in 12.46 secons while Kylie Ingvall was third in 12.81 seconds. Emgarten won the 1500-meter run in 5:18.94 while Christina Hanson was fourth in 5:46.12. Hanson also was third in the 300-meter run in 11:55.49.
In the 400-meter dash, Peters finished second in 63.80 seconds while Dziedzic was sixth in 65.94 seconds.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Amber Kirschbaum was third in 74.82 seconds with Sebert fourth in 76.04 seconds.
Mary Brown was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:39.86 with Abby Gustafson in sixth in 2:40.75.
Jones finished fourh in the 300-meter dash in 27.90 seconds.
