The 2008 Iowa Lakes softball team became the second-most successful team in school history after sweeping Southwestern Community College in its final home doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Lakers improve to 46-10 overall which makes them second only to the 2006 team which notched 57 wins.

The 2008 Iowa Lakes team did set its own record. The squad’s 25 hits against Southwestern gave them 638 for the season which breaks the record set by the 2006 team.

Scores for the day against Southwestern were 6-0 and 6-1.

In game one, the Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a RBI single by Kristina Manser.

Bowers now has 12 shutouts this season.

White was 4-4 with two RBIs, Ochoa 3-4 with one RBI, and Manser 3-4 with two RBIs.

Manser added a two-out RBI in the third to give the Lakers a 3-0 advantage. An RBI single by Aly Cloud in the fourth made it 4-0 before Southwestern scored its lone run in the sixth to make it 4-1.

RBIs by Salcedo and Ochoa in the sixth finished out the scoring at 6-1 and Lauren Smith tossed a complete game four-hitter to push her record to 16-3 on the season.
