Mustangs run strong at Bison Relays
BUFFALO CENTER — Like many teams around the area, the Armstrong-Ringsted girls track team took advantage of the good weather on Tuesday to record some of the best times of the season.
The effort led the Mustangs to a second-place finish behind host North Iowa at the Bison Relays.
North Iowa finished with 161 points with A-R second with 136.2 points. Martin County West was third with 14.4 points followed by Ventura with 92, Rockwell-Swaledale with 65.2 and Forest Ridge with 11.2.
“It was a great night for track, finally!” said A-R coach Robert Zotz. “I was very impressed with all the girls. There were many ‘personal bests’ broke tonight.”
Rosie Cheever had a school-best throw in winning the discus as she set the Mustang record with a throw of 104 feet, 4 inches. Cheever also took first in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 1/2 inch. Teammate Brittney Mitchell was second with a toss of 29 feet, 10 1/2 inches.
A-R also finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash with Brooke Craig winning in 1 minute, 3.74 seconds while Morgan Grabinoski was a step behind in 1:04.08.
A-R’s had one more first-place finish came in the 400-meter hurdles as Lisa Pelzer won in 1 minute, 33.36 seconds.
Three A-R relays placed second.
The sprint medley team of Krista Pelzer, Cheever, Grabinoski and Craig finished in 1:57.61; the 4×100-meter relay team of Halley Fox, Crystal Bush, Heather Rein and Krista Pelzer finished in 57.88 seconds; and the 4×400-meter relay team of Lisa Pelzer, Cheever, Grabinoski and Craig finished in 4:14.40.
Lisa Pelzer added a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 11 inches and another in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.63 seconds.. Craig finished in a five-way tie for second place in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 4 inches.
A-R went 2-3 in the 200-meter dash with Grabinoski clocking in at 28.05 seconds and Krista Pelzer running the event in 28.48 seconds.
In the 3000-meter run, Traci Speltz took third in 12:47.60 while Tess Christiansen was sixth in 15:29.62. In the 1500-meter run, Speltz was fifth in 5:56.83 and Christiansen was sixth in 6:40.54.
Three A-R relays finished fourth.
The shuttle hurdle team of Rein, Taylor Grabinoski, Bush and Leah Sanders finished in 1:21.21; the 4×800-meter relay team of Mitchell, Katie Truax, Karen Payne-Beaver and Taylor Grabinoski finished in 13:30.79; and the 4×200-meter relay of Bush, Rein, Mitchell and Krista Pelzer finished in 2:01.78.
