ELC wins three events st Storm Lake

STORM LAKE — The Estherville Lincoln Central boys track team earned three first-place finishes before stormy weather arrived in Storm Lake on Thursday.

Marcus Stangl threw a career-best 51 feet, 5 inches to win the shot put.

Matt Juhl won both the 3200 and 1600-meter runs with times of 10 minutes, 49 seconds and 4:49, respectively.

“I’m real happy we ran the events we could,” said ELC coach Dick Barrett. “We needed the competition and the conditioning.

“Matt has now raced six competitive miles in the last three days,” he added.

The Midgets’ Justin Blinkmann earned a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1 inch.

In the high hurdles, Jesse Knack finished fourth in 17.5 seconds.

Also, Scott Schmidt took fourth in the 400-meter dash in 52.5 seconds.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Chris Blinkmann, Dan Kirchner, Jordan Eggers and Justin Blinkmann finished fourth in 1:38.9.

ELC returns to Storm Lake Tuesday. The meet scheduled today at Armstrong was canceled.
