SL/O tennis closer to another Lakes crown

By Staff | Apr 26, 2008

The Spirit Lake/Okoboji girls tennis team is poised to win another Lakes Conference title with its 5-1 victory over Spencer on Thursday.

SLO has just two conference duals remaining and haven’t lost in league play this season.

“I think the fact that we played nine meets and that Spencer only played one showed tonight. Our girls looked a little sharper than they did,” said SLO coach Bob O’Hara. “To be in position to win the Conference title is a great accomplishment for these girls. It’s been an exciting year so far and if they focus hard the rest of the year I know that they’ll accomplish great things.”

In singles play, Alli Gerking won 10-8 over Hannah Maertens, Aubry Kolegraff lost 10-4 to Emily Wassom; Kassie Hein beat Beth Druvenga 10-5; Cassidy Clarity won 10-7 over Jennifer Barnett; Kara Crosgrove beat Mackenzie Kabrick 10-3 and Shirley Coenen won 10-3 over Holly McCloud.

Doubles matches weren’t played because the match was decided and the weather had forced play indoors.

Spirit Lake/Okoboji travels to Spencer for the Lakes Conference Tournament on Saturday.
