ELC unable to close out LeMars

The Estherville Lincoln Central girls tennis team was unable to close out a few close matches as LeMars defeated the Midgettes 6-3 on Monday.

At the No. 3 singles Sarah Chrestiansen lost 10-7 to Caitlin Bauerly while Kaylene Vos dropped her final five games in an 11-9 loss to Natalie Miller at the No. 4 singles.

“We did all right, but I thought we’d compete a little closer,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “We have a young team that has to learn how to finish games, but we’re coming along.”

At the No. 5 singles, Erin Olson, who earned honorable mention all conference this past weekend, won 10-0 over Haley Switalski. Emily Swalve picked up a tough win with a 10-8 victory over Erica Westhoff.

At the top of the singles, Stephanie Wittmer lost 10-3 to Samantha Rich and Lexie Hash lost 10-2 to Amelia Stonesifer.

In doubles play, Swalve and Morgan Kirchner earned 10-8 victory at the No. 3 doubles over Switalski and Westhoff. In other matches, Wittmer and Chrestiansen lost 10-3 to Rich and Bauerly and Vos and Olson lost 10-8 to Stonesifer and Miller.

The ELC junior varsity picked up a 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs.

Earning singles victories were Michele Wedebrand, 8-6, Courtney Bruns 8-4, Erin Kirchner, 9-7, and Molly Martens 8-3.

In other singles play, Morgan Kirchner lost 9-7 and Trish Nelson lost 8-6.

In doubles, Wedebrand and Bruns lost 8-4, Nelson and Erin Kirchner won 8-2 and Martens and Kelsey McCauley won 8-5.

In exhibition play, Liz Olson and jessica Lepird lost 6-4; Holly Enerson and Laura Fandel won 6-0; Allison Hevern and Kaylee Schoon won 6-1; Amanda Heinrichs and Megan Rogers won 6-0 and Emily Aanonson and Lepird lost 6-0.
