Midgettes earn split in Lakes triangular
STORM LAKE — The Estherville Lincoln Central girls golf team was looking for a pair of wins on Monday, but came away with a split versus Storm Lake and LeMars on Monday.
The Bulldogs edged ELC 226 to 228 with the Tornadoes shooting a 244.
“We had hopes of beating both , so it was a disappointing split tonight,” said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. “Our conference record is 3-3 and we know we missed a chance to be 4-2 an d in the top four in the conference.”
Macy Milburn led the Midgettes with a 50 to earn medalist honors.
LeMars’ Stephanie TenNapel was runnerup with a 54.
Rounding out ELC’s scores were Taylor Heinrichs with a 58, Jordan Jacobson with a 59 and a choice of 61s from Megan Woods and Paige Evans.
The other non-counting score was a 62 from Krista Lowe.
“Macy is playing well now and hopefully she can break into the 40s by the end of the season,” said Richardson. “Jordan had a season low and had six really nice holes and three rough ones. This was also the case for Megan Woods. Both could have shot low 50s with just a few breaks. But this is what the girls have to work hard against–the one or two bad holes that can rally mess up a very good round.”
In junior varsity play, ELC edged past Storm Lake 255 to 256. LeMars didn’t have a full team.
For ELC Beth Christensen had a 62, Brooke Johnson a 63, Katie Lowe a 64 and Julie Wilson a 66. Non-counting score was a 67 by Haley Dalen.
