Juhl leads ELC to two top finishes

STORM LAKE — The Estherville Lincoln Central boys track team placed fifth at the Storm Lake Track Meet on Tuesday.

Storm Lake took top honors with 140 points followed by Spirit Lake Park with 115, LeMars with 89, MOC-Floyd Valley with 67, ELC with 57, Spencer with 51, Cherokee with 27 and Carroll-Kuemper with 17.

ELC came away with three top finishes on the night.

Matt Juhl won the 3200-meter run in 10 minutes, 15.57 seconds.

Juhl also anchored the winning medley relay of Justin Blinkmann, Jordan Eggers and Scott Schmidt as they finished in 3:42.74.

The third first-place finish came from Marcus Stangl, who threw the shot put 50 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Teammate Spenser Schichtl was sixth in the event with a career-best throw of 47 feet, 2 1/4 inches. Schichtl added a sixth place in the discus with a toss of 125 feet, 2 inches.

ELC’s 4×400-meter relay team of Blinkmann, Eggers, Juhl and Schmidt was third in 3:31.07. Schmidt also had a third place in the 400-meter dash in 52.65 seconds.

Brandon Hanson was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.95.

The shuttle hurdle team of Jessie Knaack, Jay Smith, Dane Ross and Hanson finished fourth in 1:04.86.

Tyler McDermott earned fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:15.8 and also was sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.

Knaack was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 18.16 seconds.

ELC ran two junior varsity relays–both placed second.

Dan Kirchner, Marcus Christensen, Alex Rosburg and Nate Howard ran the 4×100-meter relay in 48.6 seconds.

Chris Blinkmann, Christensen, Kirchner and Rosburg ran the 4×100 in 1:41.48.

ELC is scheduled to travel to Spencer on Thursday.
