STORM LAKE — The Spirit Lake/Okoboji girls tennis team dropped just one match in an 8-1 victory over Storm Lake on Monday.

“I have to give these girls credit, they really believed in themselves when this year started,” said SL/O coach Bob O’Hara. “It should be an exciting post season, and I hope they saved their best for last.”

SL/O won five of the six singles matches as Alli Gerking beat Kelly Smith 10-6; Kassie Hein beat Morgan Rauch 10-4; Kara Crosgrove won 10-2 over Dah Khampavongsa; Shirley Coenen won 10-1 over Audrey Wells and Kathleen Rowley shut out Samantha Kavah, 10-0. The lone setback came at the No. 2 singles where Aubry Kolegraff lost 10-4 to Abby Smith.

SL/O dominated doubles play though.

Gerking and Kolegraff won 10-2 over the Smiths; Crosgrove and Hein defeated Khampavongsa and Rauch 10-2 and Jenny Lohse and Coenen won 10-1 over Wells and Kavah.

“I have to give our two seniors credit for the way they lead this team,” said O’Hara. “And the entire group of girls have really been a fun group to have been around.”

SL/O travels to Estherville on Thursday.
