ELC shows improvement in loss to Spirit Lake/Okoboji
The Estherville Lincoln Central girls tennis team won a few more games, but couldn’t come up with a match victory against Lakes Conference leader Spirit Lake/Okoboji on Thursday.
SL/O earned the 9-0 win over the Midgettes.
“We won more games than last time, and that’s what I was looking for was improvement,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner.
In singles play, Stephanie Wittmer lost 10-3 to Alli Gerking, Lexie Hash lost 10-4 to Aubry Kolegraff; Sarah Chrestiansen lost 0-1 to Cassie Hein; Erin Olson lost 10-3 to Cassidy Clarity; Kaylene Vos lost 10-4 to Kara Crosgrove and Emily Swalve lost 6-3 to Shirley Coenen.
In doubles play, Wittmer and Olson lost 10-1 to Gerking and Kolegaff; Chrestiansen and Vos lost 10-3 to Hein and Crosgrove and Swalve and Morgan Kirchner lost 10-2 to Clarity and Kylie Stoll.
The ELC junior varsity earned three wins in a 6-3 loss.
In singles play, Courtney Bruns won 8-5 and Trish Nelson won 8-6. Nelson and Molly Martens also won the No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
In other singles matches, Morgan Kirchner lost 8-0, Michelle Wedebrand lost 8-2, Erin Kirchner lost 8-4 and Martens lost 8-1.
In doubles, Wedebrand and Bruns lost 8-5 and Erin Kirchner and Kelsey McCauley lost 9-7.
Several exhibition matches were played. Some of ELC’s wins include the following: Tessa Bernholtz and Amanda Heinrichs won 6-2; Kaylee Schoon and Allison Hevern won 6-0, Heather Enerson and Megan Rogers won 6-1, McCauley and Laura Fandel won 7-6, Fandel and Liz Olson won 6-3 and Heinrichs and Fandel won 6-1.
