SPIRIT LAKE — Four members of the Spirit Lake girls golf team earned Lakes Conference honors as the Indians won the league tournament on Monday.
The Indians carded a 377 to beat Spencer by 10 strokes.
The Tigers took the top individual spot as Emily Holck carded an 81 as the individual conference champion.
However, Spirit Spirit Lake’s Ashley Nielsen shot a 90 and Nikki Nielsen had a 92 to place second and third while Regan Sieperda was fifth with a 97 and Emily Eyres was seventh with a 98.
Ashley had nine-hole rounds of 49 and 41 while Nikki shot two rounds of 46. Sieperda shot rounds of 45 and 52 and Ayres had rounds of 50 and 48.
“We started golf in Spirit Lake in 1979 and probably had a total of 15-to 18 girls make all-conference,” said Spirit Lake coach Bob Kirchner. “This is a first for us to have four all-conference players and another girl miss by a stroke.”
Non-counting scores were a 101 from Katie Hansen and a 108 by Maureen Owens.
“Congratulations to the girls. It’s a well-deserved Lakes Conference championship,” said Kirchner.
Spencer finished with a 387 followed by Emmetsburg with 403 and ELC with 425. Cherokee was fifth with 445 followed by Sheldon with 453, Storm Lake with 459, LeMars with 487 and Western Christian with 492.
