Tigers defeat Midgettes, 8-1
SPENCER — The Estherville Lincoln Central girls tennis team came up on the short end against Spencer. The Tigers won 8-1.
Erin Olson picked up the lone win, beat Jen Barnett 11-9 at the No. 4 singles position.
“Erin had a good match that went back and forth,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “She was down early, but turned it around at 5-all.”
In other singles matches, Stephanie Wittmer lost 10-4 to Holly Maertens; Lexie Hash lost 10-3 to Emily Wassom; Sarah Chrestiansen lost 10-3 to Beth Druvenga; Kaylene Vos lost 10-4 to Mackenzie Kabrick; and Morgan Kirchner lost 10-4 to Holly McCloud.
In doubles play, Wittmer and Olson lost 10-2 to Maertens and Wassom; Chrestiansen and Olson lost 10-2 to Druvenga and Kabrick and Hash and Kirchner lost 10-8 to Barnett and Amanda Edwards.
“Overall,the varsity played well,” said coach Kirchner. ‘It gaves us a little more experience for next year.”
The ELC junior varsity won 6-3 over Spencer.
In singles play, Michelle Wedebrand lost 8-2; Courtney Bruns won 8-5; Trisha Nelson won 8-5, Erin Kirchner lost 8-1; Molly Martens won 8-3 and Liz Olson lost 8-4.
ELC swept doubles with Wedebrand and Bruns winning 8-4; Nelson and Martens won 8-2 and Kirchner and Kelsie McCauley won 8-4.
In exhibition play, Heather Enerson and Holly Enerson won 7-5; Laura Fandel and Allison Hevern won 6-1; Tessa Bernholtz and Kaylee Schoon won 6-1; Jessica Lepird and Emily Aanonson lost 8-6; Megan Rogers and Amanda Heinrichs won 6-4.
ELC hosts Storm Lake today.
