SLP girls win fourth Lakes crown
The Spirit Lake Park girls track team won its fourth Lakes Conference title on Monday in Estherville.
For coach Tim Heinitz, the fourth championship feels just as good as the first.
“It was a long time before we got that first one, so you never take even one championship for granted,” he said. “For our seniors, this group has bragging rights for winning four conference titles. What a feat. We’ve had good leadership from our seniors. They come to practice every day and never miss.”
Seniors Kaisha Brown, Carrie Emgarten, Christina Hansen, Kylie Sebert and Jen Kirschbaum all earned points in Monday’s event.
Twelve SLP athletes earned all-conference honors by placing first or second as the Indians scored 158.33 points. Storm Lake was second with 132.33 points.
