By Staff | May 10, 2008

Former NBA player Chris Carr will be the featured speaker at the fifth annual Estherville Lincoln Central All-Sports Awards Night.

Carr is the founding principal of 43 Hoops, Inc.

43 Hoops Basketball Academy exists to help middle and high school age men and women achieve their true potential in life through athletics. The organization provides basketball, volleyball, soccer and life skills training to help adolescents improve themselves through sport, discipline, dedication and teamwork

Carr was born and raised in Pilot Knob, Mo. He had a stellar high school career and was awarded first team unanimous decision all-state honors, Missouri State High School Athletic Association All-Star Game Most Valuable Player honors.

After high school, he received a full athletic scholarship to play basketball for Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale.

At SIU, Carr led his team to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. Following his junior season he was named both the Missouri Valley Conference MVP and the Missouri Conference Tournament MVP.

In 1995, the National Basketball Association’s Phoenix Suns drafted Carr in the second round. He later played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics.

Although basketball is a large portion of his life, Carr enjoys mentoring and sharing his life experiences with young people, traveling and, most importantly, spending quality time with his wife Tanya and their five children.
