ELC falls to Spencer

The Estherville Lincoln Central girls tennis team ended the regular season with a makeup match against Spencer on Friday.

The Tigers won relatively easily with a 7-2 victory.

Earning wins for the Midgettes was Erin Olson at the No. 4 singles with a 10-8 victory over Jen Barnett. Then Olson and Emily Swalve won a marathon match, defeating Abby DeVore and Jill Wittrock 11-10 (7-3) at the No. 3 doubles.

In other singles matches, Stephanie Wittmer lost 10-3 to Hannah Maertens; Lexie Hash lost 10-0 to Emily Wassom; Sarah Chrestiansen lost 10-1 to Beth Druvenga; Kaylene Vos lost 10-3 to McKenzie Kabrick and Swalve lost 10-4 to Holly McCloud.

In doubles, Wittmer and Hash lost 11-9 to Druvenga and Kabrick; and Chrestiansen and Vos lost 10-0 to Wassom and Barnett.

“We competed well early in the match, but struggled later on,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “Spencer’s a good team.”

ELC travels to Spencer today for regional tennis.

The ELC junior varsity picked up a 7-2 win.

In singles, Morgan Kirchner lost 8-2, Michelle Wedebrand lost 8-5; Courtney Bruns won 8-4, Trisha Nelson won 8-1, Erin Kirchner won 8-3 and Molly Martens won 8-3.

In doubles, Morgan Kirchner and Erin Kirchner won 8-6; Nelson and Martens won 8-2 and Bruns and Wedebrand won 9-7.
