Five Mustangs girls headed to 2008 state meet

LAURENS –Five Armstrong-Ringsted girls will make the trip to the 2008 Class 1State meet in Des Moines following their performances at Laurens on Saturday.

Rosie Cheever earned an automatic state berth by winning the discus with a throw of 101 feet.

Also earning an automatic bid by winning the 4×400-mete relay were Lisa Pelzer, Cheever, Morgan Grabinoski and Olivia Craig as they finished in 4 minutes, 16. 22 seconds.

The rest of the A-R qualifiers were posted on Sunday on the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union website showing the Mustangs had qualified in three more events.

The third-place finish by the 4×200-meter relay team of Krista Pelzer, Lisa Pelzer, Grabinoski and Craig finished in 1:51.70 and the fourth-place sprint medley team of Krista Pelzer, Cheever, Grabinoski and Craig finished in 1:56.79.

Also, Lisa Pelzer qualified in the 400-meter low hurdles with her time of 1:11.31.

Other events placing at the district meet, where A-R finished tied for fifth with 57 points include the following.

Krista Pelzer was fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.95 seconds and sixth in the 200-meter dash in 28.79 seconds.

Lisa Pelzer was fourth in the 100meter hurdles in 17.13 seconds and Traci Speltz placed fifth in the 3000-meter run in 12:46.45.
