Mustangs gallop at state
DES MOINES — The Armstrong-Ringsted boys track team completed its first two events at the 2008 Class 1A State Track Meet.
Sophomore Tyler Tonderum assured himself of a medal by qualifying for the 100-meter dash finals.
His time of 11.51 seconds placed him sixth overall. He will run in lane 2 for Saturday’s 100-meter dash finals which start at 12:25 p.m.
“My start was good, but I tightened up a little at the finish,” said Tonderum, who finished third in his heat.
The sophomore said his goal is to just try to keep his stride and stay loose.
While his time was a little slower, part of that is due to the automatic timing used at the state meet.
A-R’s shuttle hurdle relay team of Dillion McBride, Brett Tigges, Craig Tigges and Ethan Eisenbacher finished 17th overall in 1:02.55.
McBride, a senior, said he felt nervous until the gun went off.
“Then I was fine,” he said. “It felt good running down here at least once.”
Fellow senior Brett Tigges said he felt the team could’ve done a little better.
“All-in all, it was great to come down here and get to run,” he said. “I had one of my better times–my second best.”
Brother Craig Tigges, a sophomore, said he thought his race went well.
“I ran about the same time as district,” he said. “It’s quite an experience down here and I hope I can come back.”
Fellow sophomore Eisenbacher said he also felt good about his race.
“i was kind of nervous, but it’s the state meet so you expect to be a little nervous,” he said. “I feel I could’ve run a little better.”
The A-R boys have just one event today as Brett Tigges will compete in the high jump which starts at 2 p.m.
The A-R girls track team also begin running today with Lisa Pelzer in the 400-meter hurdles at 3:40 p.m., the 4×200-meter relay running at 4:30 p.m. and the 4×400 running at 7:40 p.m.
Also Rosie Cheever will compete inthe discus at 2 p.m.
