Knights win home, conference openerby David Swartz

TERRIL — The Graettinger/Terril softball team picked up its first win of the season with an 8-2 victory over Harris-Lake Park on Friday.

The first Cornbelt Conference game for both teams, the Wolves got on the board first with a run in the first inning with the Knights answering in the bottom of the inning.

G/T scored one run each of the next two innings to take a 3-1 lead with H-LP scoring in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to one.

But in the bottom of the inning, Lindsay Flaharty started with a slap-bunt single and scored on a double by Theresa Petersen. A single by Jennie Mart brought in Petersen which was followed by a walk to Leah Flaharty. One run scored when Dakota Hovinga hit a ball that the H-LP second baseman couldn’t field cleanly and a bunt by Malorie Girres loaded the bases.

The Wolves finally got an out when Tasha Nielsen popped up, but G/T scored one more run when Amanda Olesen grounded out.

“It was a good way to start the Cornbelt Conference,” said first-year coach Jana Hector. “The middle of our lineup has been hitting solidly.”

Girres earned the win on the mound as she struck out three batters while giving up four hits and four walks.

At the plate, Mart was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs while Lindsay Flaharty was 2-3. Petersen was 1-3 with two RBIs.

G/T (1-2) is on the road against Corwith-Wesley-Luverne next Wednesday.

Sibley-Ocheyedan 10,

Graettinger/Terril 7

On Thursday, The Graettinger/Terril softball team lost 10-7 to Sibley-Ocheyedan.

At the plate, Ashley Nielsen was 2-3 with a a double, a triple and an RBI, Liz Sparks was 2-4 with an RBI and Lindsay Flaharty was 2-4.

Malorie Girres struck out four and walked seven in the loss.
