Indians bring down Hawks

SPIRIT LAKE — The Spirit Lake baseball team opened its season with a non-league game against Hartley-Melvin Sanborn.

A seven-run second inning helped the Indians to a 14-3, five-inning victory over the Hawks.

Ethan Carlson pitched four innings, striking out seen batterswhile giving up four hits and one walk.

Brad Engel pitched the final inning and struck out the side.

Spirit Lake pounded out 11 hits with Derrick Minor going 3-4 and scoring four runs. Engel was 3-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs and Mitch Peschon was 2-4 with a home run four RBIs. Also Nik Erickson was 1-2 with an RBI and Carlson was 1-2 with a double.

Spirit Lake (1-0) will play at Estherville on Wednesday.
