First inning is Knight time
WESLEY — With two outs to start the first inning, Corwith-Wesley-Luverne seemed in good shape against visiting Graettinger/Terril on Wednesday.
But the Knights suddenly started hitting and 19 batters later, G/T had pounded out 11 hits and 15 runs before the Panthers got the third out.
“We took a good infield, but I felt the girls weren’t excited offensively,” said G/T coach Jana Hector. “But they started hitting the ball and kept moving the runners.”
Starting pitcher Malorie Girres shut out the Panthers in the 20-0 victory. She gave up four hits with one strikeout and one walk.
At the plate, Leah Flaharty led the way with a triple, three RBIs and two runs; Theresa Petersen was 2-4 with four RBIs, a triple and two runs and Girres was 2-4 with three RBIs.
The Knights (2-2, 2-0) travel to Storm Lake to take on St. Mary’s today.
