Indians finish sixth at state
MARSHALLTOWN –The Spirit Lake girls golf team shot an identical score from the first day to the second day, both days 418, in the Class 3A state golf meet in Marshalltown.
Their two-day total of 836 landed them sixth overall though as most other teams improved on the first day.
Washington followed up its 367 with a 361 to win easily with a418.
Knoxville was second with 810 followed by MOC-Floyd Valley with 820, Ballard with 827, Clear Lake with 28, Spirit Lake, Crestwood with 858 and Vinton-Shellsburg with 867.
The Indians were led by Nikki Nielsen who shot a 97 after a first-round 98 for a 195.
Ashley Nielsen shot a 101 both days for a 202. Maureen Owens improved four strokes from the first day with a 105 and a two-day total of 214.
Katie Hansen rounded out the scoring as she shot a 116 on day two for a 226 total.
Non-counting scores were a 228 by Emily Ayres, who shot 115 on Wednesday and Regan Sieperda who ended with a a 238 after a 120 on day two.
Ballard’s Susan Kirscheman took the state individual title with a second-round 79 that gave her a 164.
She was two strokes ahead of Alex Curry of Shenandoah, who had a 166.
Kaurie Kincaid, who shot an 80 on the first day, ended in third after an 88 in day two with a 168 total
