The Armstrong-Ringsted softball team improved to 3-1 with a pair of wins at the Estherville Lincoln Central Softball Classic on Saturday.

The Mustangs opened the day with a 4-2 in over Collins-Maxwell, then shut out Spencer 2-0.

Against Collins-Maxwell, the Raiders broke open the scoring with drawing a leadoff walk from Leach. A stolen base and two strikeouts later, the Raiders’ cleanup batter delivered an RBI single to bring in the run.

Meanwhile the Mustangs loaded the bases in both of the first two innings before breaking into the scoring column.

Logan Evans reached second base when she hit a grounder to the pitcher, who overthrew first base. After a sacrifice by Megan Sanders sent Evans to third, Brianne Gonzales delivered an RBI triple which was followed by an RBI double from Leach as A-R led 2-1.

The Mustangs added two insurance runs in the sixth inning when Leach singled and Michele Iris reached on an error. The runners advanced o second and third on a passed ball and Lisa Pelzer delivered an RBI single.

With runners at the corners, Pelzer went to steal second and enticed the Raiders defense to charge her. Iris headed for home and the throw came late as A-R came up with the double steal.

Defensively, Collins-Maxwell went down in order the last two innings.

Leach earned the win with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

At the plate, Leach was 3-3 with a double and an RBI, Pelzer was 2-3 with an RBI, Julie Neppel was 2-4 with a double and Gonzales was 1-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Against Spencer, A-R scored two quick runs.

Pelzer led off with a single and moved to third over the next at bat and scored when Rosie Cheever grounded out to second. Morgan Grabinoski reached base on an error and went to second on a wild pitch. She scored when Evans reached on another Tiger error.

That was all the scoring in the game as Leach and Spencer’s Jaimie Webster competed in a pitchers’ duel.

Leach had nine strikeouts and no walks.

Both teams had just five hits, but the Tigers had seven errors to just one for A-R.

At the plate, Gonzales was 2-3 with a double, Pelzer was 2-4 and Evans was 1-3 with an RBI.

Last Wednesday, the Mustangs defeated Twin River Valley 9-0.

Leach earned the win with 15 strikeouts and one hit batter while giving up just one hit.

At the plate, Rosie Cheever was 4-4 with four RBIs, Morgan Grabinoski was 2-4 with an RBI, Pelzer was 2-5 and Leach was 1-3.
