Mustangs win fifth straight

ALGONA — The Armstrong-Ringsted softball team won its fifth straight game with a 10-5 victory over Algona on Tuesday.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings, but the Bulldogs cut the deficit to 4-3 with two runs in the third.

Both teams scored twice in the fourth with A-R adding an insurance run in the fifth.

However, April Gunderson’s three-run home run in the top of the sixth sealed the win for the Mustangs, who shut down the Bulldogs the last three innings.

A-R pounded out 10 hits to just six for Algona.

Lisa Pelzer was 3-3, Rosie Cheever was 2-4 with a double and an RBI, Brianne Gonzales was 1-4, Gunderson was 1-3 with three RBIs, Amy Leach was 1-2 and Megan Sanders was 1-4 with an RBI.

Leach earned the win on the mound as she struck out seven batters and walked none.

A-R (5-1, 2-1) hosts Graettinger/Terril today at 6 p.m.
